Scenic Hudson's Long View Park(Hudson Valley-New Baltimore, Greene County)

Paid an early evening visit to Scenic Hudson's 76 acre Long View Park found just over the Greene County line in the town of New Baltimore along the west banks of the Hudson River.  Parked in the small, designated lot off of River Road at the site of the old Bronk and Armstrong farm, where a gorgeous old red barn greets you.
There are no marked trails, but obvious wide mowed paths wander down through wide open meadows, offering up a splendid little walk.
I dropped down through the meadows to an access road, which draws you down towards the Hudson.
An unmarked left hand turn drops you straight down to an old Quarry site along the river.  Unfortunately, there are no present day remains of the Quarry activity, but there is access to the Hudson's shore from here.  Looking downstream, south, where warm breezes carry up the river.
Looking northeast across the river into Rensselaer County, still bathed in late evening sunlight.
Very little remains of a late 19th century icehouse that stood along the river here.  This was just one of 145 that graced the Hudson's shoreline at the time it was built(1896).  Today, all that is visible is a portion of the stone and cement base of the large icehouse that once stood here.
The climb back up and away from the Hudson is quite steep, on a rugged old road.
Nothing truly says August like goldenrod, a staple of mid to late summer.
Back uphill away from the river, a short walk south brings you to an open clearing high above the old icehouse remains. A bench makes a nice, peaceful spot to relax, but any river views from here are completely obstructed by trees and summer vegetation .
Just behind the clearing, a small man made pond can be accessed via a side path.  The pond offers up a good chance to enjoy nature, but is fairly stagnant and not all that pretty to look at.
From the pond, I continued on the Overlook path, which heads west back towards the road through open fields, offering up a chance at a loop hike.
Even on these hot summer days, these hay bales should be a gentle reminder that farmers are always preparing for the next winter.   The path gently climbs back up through these farm fields and back to the car.
A nice and easy 1.5 mile after dinner walk to burn off a few calories.  As the sun set, the temperatures(and humidity) began to drop back to fairly comfortable levels.
