Glowegee Creek Trail(Galway, Saratoga County)

While driving home in Saratoga County late this afternoon I decided to check out Saratoga PLAN's brand new Glowegee Creek Trail, located in the town of Galway.  There are two entrances to the preserve, one from the south along County Route 45 and one from the north along Old Mill Road, which would be my access point today.  There is no formal parking area on Old Mill Road, but a kiosk and signage let you know you are in the right spot.  I parked on the shoulder of the road(being mindful not to block the field access road for the landowners-part of an easement) and entered the field at the kiosk.

Initially the blue trail leaves the road and heads south along the edge of the large field, which is actually private property and part of a land easement(so please stay on the trail).
The trail quickly leaves the field and skirts the backyard of a private residence before heading into the woods.  Within just a few moments the sounds of rushing water can be heard through the trees.  The trail soon drops down slightly to a foot bridge crossing of Glowegee Creek, with a great view just upstream of a small but pretty cascading waterfall.
After crossing the creek I took various trails that meander through a nice mix of woods and old stone walls.
The spring conditions were just great, with the late afternoon sun keeping temps around 50.
At a junction of several trails I came across what I first thought was just a wetland, but is a pond of some sorts(man-made?).
Passing through a large meadow near a high spot, where I can almost imagine deer congregating.
After taking the green and orange trails, I picked up the blue trail once again, returning north back towards the car.  In the early evening light now, the cascades along Glowegee Creek were truly a sight to see.
A nice and peaceful 2.3 mile hike, with a couple hundred feet of elevation change along the way.  Another great addition to the Saratoga area for outdoor recreation, thanks to the local landowners and Saratoga PLAN.

  1. Thanks for the gouge on this. I've heard they had something going on up here and it's great to see what it looks like. I suspect I'll be taking my daughter there this week during her spring vacation from school. Nice!
