Decided to check out the new Eileen Phillips Trail, which sits just east of Daniels Road State Forest and can be accessed from the rear of the Artisanal Brew Works in the town of Wilton. The trail system is in its infancy stages with no signage or trailheads to be found, but a careful eye can pick out pink flagging, which heads off into the woods.
The initial climb is quite steep, heading up towards a ridge.
The steep ascent is quickly rewarded with some nice views out across the Northway to the SE.
The woods are beautiful and even though you aren't far from the busy Route 9 corridor, you feel a world away.
The trail crosses directly through this neat passage.
On the far west side of the trail system, close to Daniels Road State Forest, is a sprawling wetland, which was looking rather wintry today.
Explored over 2 miles of these woods and didn't see another soul all day-a quiet gem-for now.
Interesting. The trailhead is actually in the Town of Wilton and part of the trail may slip into Greenfield. It appears to be associated with the Artisanal Brew Works so thanks to them for inviting the public. I'm going to stop in for a beer and a bite to eat after I hike it. I believe more trails are in the works at the nearby graphite mine. Love your photos and write-ups.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on the town! I updated the info to reflect such. Yes, I think you are right, this trail system is made possible through Artisanal Brew Works-so kudos to them!! Always nice explore new land!
