Lion's Head(Connecticut)

Ventured back into northwest Connecticut's Litchfield hills this afternoon for a perfect after work hike to 1738 foot Lion's Head in Salisbury.  Lion's Head is part of the Appalachian Trail as well as a popular day hike due to its great views.  Today's hike would start from the parking area off of Bunker Hill Road, which is located a bit north and west of the village of Salisbury.

 The blue blazed Lion's Head trail passes through private property, so it is imperative that you stay on the trail.

 After a steady uphill climb, the white blazes of the Appalachian Trail comes in from the right. 

 Where the blue blazed Lion's Head bypass trail continues straight, the AT ascends directly up through a rocky climb towards the summit.

 Emerging from the trees on the rocky summit trail is a phenomenal view to the south.

 I lingered at the rocky ledges for quite a while, enjoying the great vista.

This hike is unique in that the rewards are truly great for not a lot of effort.  The climb was steady, ascending 540 feet but never overly steep.  Hiked a total of 1.9 miles RT.
