Stop #2 for the day was a short distance north to Ledge Mountain, a small 2200 foot peak located just NW of the hamlet of Indian Lake. Our starting point for this hike was from the Rock River Trail along the east side of NY 28. We started on the trail for about 1/10 of a mile before quickly turning off and bushwhacking east into open hardwoods. It was an easy and uneventful mile of bushwhacking before we finally began to hit the lower ledges below Ledge's summit. The colorful reds on display almost jumped out right at you.
Upon reaching the first open ledge, we enjoyed a phenomenal view directly south to Little Sawyer(L) and Sawyer Mountain(R).
Continuing up, the views from each ledge gets better and better. The fiery colors set the scene ablaze.
My buddy Jim soaking in the striking fall foliage from the open ledges with the Little High Peaks off in the distance beyond Little Sawyer Mountain.
The woods are ablaze in a sea of foliage, akin to a large bag of spilled skittles.
Looking directly down the vertical ledges on Ledge Mountain.
From the ledges of 2200 foot Ledge Mountain-an "oh my god" moment, complete with a rock cairn.
From another ledge near the summit, I found yet another view
SE views with White Birch Ridge(L).
After soaking in the incredible views, it was a nice and easy return trip to the car. About 2.2 miles RT, with over 400 feet ascent.
